RTE star Sile Seoige leaves viewers in awe after ‘honest’ and ‘brave’ miscarriage documentary

TV star Sile Seoige returned to screens last night for an emotional documentary which examined the heartbreak around miscarriage.

The 41-year-old, who gave birth to her son Cathal in 2017, had a miscarriage in November 2018 and another a year later.

Last night saw the RTE presenter bring her emotional documentary all about fertility struggles and the heartache of miscarriage to screens nationwide.

Among those who featured in the moving program which aired on TG4 were former Miss World Rosanna Davison, who has spoke open about her difficult pregnancy journey as well as Met Eireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly.

During the program she went into detail about one harrowing instance.

She recalled a time that she had been traveling to New York by plane alongside her brother to visit their cousin in when she began to bleed.

By the time she reached New York, she was still unwell and when she visited her cousin in a high rise office building, she was forced to rush to the toilet.

It was there that she passed her baby in what she described as a ‘horror story’.

She said: “I remember in this high rise tower in New York holding my tiny, little, size of a fingernail, baby in my hands and I was looking at it and I was touching it,” she explained.

Unsure of what to do in in such a difficult situation, Joanna said that she had no other choice but to “flush it away”.

Joanna told of how someone later said to her: “Well it wasn’t really a baby,” adding: “It really was! It really was! I saw it. That was 15 years ago and I’m still crying over something that ‘wasn’t really a baby’. “

Viewers were moved by the emotional documentary praising Sile and the other women on the program for their honesty and bravery.

One social media user wrote: “Thank you sile for doing this. This conversation needed to be started and you have started it. Powerful Raw and gave me the permission to cry. The most healing part is now knowing my babies are always with me. Thank you. “

Another added: “Beautiful, raw, honest documentary by @SileSeoige we @ TG4TV about #miscarriage – something so common, but so painful. And largely unspoken about. The Irish language made it feel even more special I thought. Well done. “
